How to build a website

When building a website, the first thing to think of is an idea.  Most of the times you already know your idea so that should be quite easy, then you want to think of a title for your website.  Now the title can be very important so there are some great FREE tools that you can use to help you choose the right title.  Google provides some great tools like Google Insights or Google Adwords Keyword Tool, both of these tools can help you see the popularity of they keywords you might be looking into. Google Insights will show you the past popularity and future predictions of the keywords you search, along with giving you a few other related keywords. Google Adwords Keyword Tool also shows you the popularity of a keyword, along with other related keywords.  But it will also show you how dense the market is  this comes in use when you are trying to think of other ideas or names.  If your fighting against more people then your fighting an uphill battle but it can still be done.  For the easier path you want a market that is less dense so you can dominate it and then go after more markets once you have succeeded in the first one.

Now that you have your title picked out, we can move onto how to build your website.  There are many Content Management Systems (CMS) to choose from, some people who want a blog choose something like Blogger or WordPress as they are 100% Free but do keep in mind with free solutions some limitations do apply.  Now if you want full control over all your pages to drag anything anywhere and add videos to any place on your website then I would highly suggest WebPaper, they do offer a free solution with 3 pages and 2MB of storage for uploading of images and much much more.  But also if you want you can sign up and get much more access and applications to add to your website.  The great thing about WebPaper is it’s drag and drop simplicity that no one else can compare to.

Now you might want to consider Search Engine Optimization (SEO), this is how search engines will find you.  Although search engines scan the web looking for new websites all the time, it really helps if you have the right information in the right places so the search engines know just what your website is about.  This is so they list you in the type of market or results you want to be listed in, so your traffic is full of people looking for just what you offer.  Now Search Engine Optimization consists of a lot of things, but I will cover a few crucial ones now.  Keyword Density is the amount of times you use a target keyword in your content, from my understanding and past work you want to try and keep it at 8% – 10% this means for every 100 words use the keyword no more than 8 to 10 times.  If you exceed that then search engines will consider you a robot or spam and possibly sand box or black list your domain/website.  Now meta tags such as title, description and keywords are also a MUST!  and just F.Y.I. WebPaper lets you set them right as you start building your website, so it’s very easy and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Friendly.

Now do watch out because you might be saying oh I know some website builder that works to, well don’t just try any website builder.  As some build the websites in FLASH, and the bad part about FLASH is search engines don’t understand it.  Not to mention it wont work on cell phones or mobile devices, and as iPad’s and Smart Phones become more and more popular.  You will lose out on a huge and very fast growing market, so just keep that in mind.

WebPaper also offers tons of free website templates to help you get started quite fast, all you have to do is adjust the pictures with your own, and maybe add or adjust some text and your done!

Now it is up to you to share your website with friends and family, and ask them to share it with their friends and family.  Soon you will see the traffic grow as your site takes listing on Google in a few days as well.  From then on it’s just about keeping up with the posting and addition of content to your website.

Best of Luck ! and feel free to check out more blog posts on our Blog for more website building and marketing information.

Why Flash Websites Suck

Flash SucksFirst off lets just say Flash at times can be useful, but for something large scale and as technology progresses it deems to be more and more useless.  HTML5 is said to be the next solution, but until it’s accepted by all browsers that would not be suggested for use.

html5 is better than flash

Just some fun facts, Co-founder, Chairman and CEO,Apple Inc., Co-founder and CEO,Pixar, Co-founder and CEO, NeXT Inc. Steve Jobs even made 6 great points on why Adobe Flash was not going to proceed into the future:

Steve Jobs

  • Flash is a closed, Adobe-controlled system.
  • H.264 is a “more modern format” for Web video
  • Flash would make iPhones, iPods, and iPads less reliable.
  • H.264 video consumes about half as much battery as Flash video.
  • Flash was not designed for touch interfaces.
  • Flash is cross-platform and not Apple optimized.

Steve Jobs concludes his letter by saying:

“Flash was created during the PC era — for PCs and mice. Flash is a successful business for Adobe, and we can understand why they want to push it beyond PCs. But the mobile era is about low power devices, touch interfaces and open Web standards — all areas where Flash falls short…New open standards created in the mobile era, such as HTML 5, will win on mobile devices (and PCs too). Perhaps Adobe should focus more on creating great HTML 5 tools for the future, and less on criticizing Apple for leaving the past behind.”
But lets just tell you a few really good reasons of our own, here in 2012 that we have found.  And we are sure as time progresses this list will grow more and more:
  • Search Engines do not understand flash content, therefor your site content is over looked.. Hurting your organic ranking and SEO and not allowing you to optimize it.
  • Does not work on mobile devices, does not look like this will change.. and with iPads and smart phones growing in sales.  This marketing is surely growing, and growing fast.
  • Longer loading time, might lose up to 20% of visitors due to this alone.
  • Bandwidth hog, Flash uses tons of server bandwidth .. and as you grow that starts to cost quite a bit of money.  Even with unlimited hosting, they server can only handle so much.
  • You cant bookmark a page, such as if you are inside a store on a very cool product you like.  If you wanted to bookmark or save that page, or even email it to a friend… you couldn’t due to flash being all inside one page… so you must start at the intro every time…
  • There is 100% nothing Flash can do, that HTML5 or Javascript cant produce better.
Fuck Flash

Also lets keep in mind the remarks from Adobe it’s self:

From the Adobe announcement ZDNet published:

Our future work with Flash on mobile devices will be focused on enabling Flash developers to package native apps with Adobe AIR for all the major app stores. We will no longer adapt Flash Player for mobile devices to new browser, OS version or device configurations.

Building a SEO Friendly Website

When building your website, keep in mind Search Engine Optimization (SEO) helps bring viewers to your website.  Gaining rank organically through keywords, and other useful information you provide in your website content.

First keep in mind the “Title” of the website matters, if possible have a keyword or two in the title such as:

WebPaper – Free Online Website Builder

See how you can put a dash along with a sub title or h2 tag inside the actual website title.  Next keep in mind your keywords are very helpful, try thinking of other related words that users might type in and want to read or see what you are providing on your website.

Website, Free, Builder, Top, Best, 2012, About, Info, Website, Online,

Now the meta description or website description also helps users find just what you have to offer.  Try to also include some keywords in the website description such as:

Free Online Website Builder that lets users build their very own website in minutes.  Offering Image hosting and easy slide show creators to help build your very own website tonight.

How to add your site to Search Engines

Why submit your website to major Search Engines?

The reason why you SHOULD submit your website to Search Engines is so you introduce the crawlers to your content. Crawlers are the robots that detects the content on your website such as “text” and “images”. Submitting a newly made website is HIGHLY recommended. Did I mention is 100% free?

The process to submit your website to Google, Bing and Yahoo Search Engines is simple and easy to do. This process shouldn’t take you anymore then ten minutes of your time. We suggest submitting your website to all three of these major Search Engines.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

WebPaper.co offers the best search engine optimization features than any other website builder or website building tool online.  Along with being 100% Free, how can you beat that?

How to update Search Engine optimization (SEO) settings on WebPaper

Search Engine optimization (SEO) can be achieved on WebPaper.co  for what we call “ON-SITE SEO”. The icon  Page Properties known as page properties, lets users set their website title, meta keywords, and meta description as well as the FAV icon.  All this will help search engines understand what your website is about, so you will get the traffic your trying to target.

Why is Search Engine optimization (SEO) important?

You want users who care about what you have to talk about, or what items you might be selling.  Why be ranked for something you don’t want to be, and get traffic from people looking for something else.  All that will do is hurt your website ranking and conversions but also give you false statistic data from users to see what you might be able to improve on so users stay longer.

Plus when you ask people in today’s market to find the best deal on a product or service, the first place they will go is Google.com or another search engine.  So be sure to add your website title, meta description and meta keywords as this will ensure search engines know just what to place you under.

Also in Search Engine optimization (SEO) keyword density matters, so be sure not to over use a keyword like a robot.  But do try to use it as often as you possibly can, do keep in mind duplicate content as well.  Search engines like Google.com and many others will punish you or lower your rank for doing this.  It means to simply copy and paste content another website is using, and placing that content on your website.  The correct way to go about doing something like this, should be to re-write the content in your own words.  This will not only help you rank better in search engines, but also you will notice some websites just seem to ramble on about nothing.

Search Engine Optimization Overview

The Basic overview of Search Engine Optimization

Explaining what SEO is..

Optimizing your website can become very frustrating and time consuming. If you follow these basic guide lines it will detour you away from this frustration and hair pulling.

What is Search Engine OptimizationSearch Engine Optimization also known as SEO is Bettering your website(s) for higher search results for certain key phrases in your market. By having high search results you then have more traffic to your website.

First steps

Getting started is the hardest part in all this. First part is research, research is key to the success and longevity of your web pages success.

Let’s first look at the most popular and well know search engines and how they are doing -

Now that we know sorta whats going on within the search engine market we can now progress.

Market Research

Our market research, this is most time consuming parts (besides creating content). Find your direct competition. To do this go to multiple search engines such as “Yahoo, Google, Bing, Ask, ect.” and type in your keyword/phrase your attempting to gain popularity for.

Our example here is “Babysitter”, now “Babysitter” is a very board for location defining returning 103,000,000 results. Lets try “New York BabySitter”, google returned 14,100,000. Inserting a location brings less competition and a easier market (88,900,000 less competing websites!)

Now lets be more specific and use “Manhattan Babysitter” and google bring back 3,360,000 results, even less!!

So far we went from “Babysitter” to “New York Babysitter” to “Manhattan Babysitter”. Lets now mess with plural instances. 4,510,000 results from Google for “Manhattan Babysitters”, its more =(. In our case less competition the better!

Free Tools you may use

Content is KING! But only if it is not stolen (copy and pasted). Stay on subject (if you have a website about cars, stick to cars don’t start talking about baseball.).

What is content? Content is anything that someone can access via the internet. (Images,Videos, Text, Audio, Files)

Doors are your content, the more doors you have the higher potential traffic you may have. Try and write as much text content as possible, of course adding images, videos and audio segments are a plus. Currently images and text are the top searched things on the internet.

Quality content is a MUST, copy and pasting is a NO NO! DO NOT COPY AND PASTE your content, not only is it not right (without giving credit/getting permission) you are majorly hurting your future results.

Search Engines will and are penalizing for duplicate content. For example lets say two websites are found in the search engines directory with the same results, it will only display one of the two. Thus being one website missed out indefinably. How that is determined is unknown, but off speculation its due to better “SEO” practices on one of the two websites. The better one stays, and the other one goes.

Basic Onsite Search Engine Optimization consists of the following -

  • Title Tag
  • Meta Description
  • Meta Keywords
  • Keyword density (How many times your using your keyword; human like instances not (cars, cars, cars, cars) should look like (Our cars come in all colors. Cars are my favorite hobby. I love cars so much even my wife likes cars.)
  • H1 tags (determines subjects displayed on pages) [<h1>Topic Here</h1>]
On WebPaper you can edit your Meta tags by clicking the Page properties Icon that looks like . This icon is located within your WebPaper Editor. Once you click the Page Properties icon a pop up box will appear that looks like
Here you will be able to fill in your page’s meta tags, title and other cool things like background image, background color, fav icon ect. Click here for more information about Page Properties.
